The Golden Age of Hollywood

Welcome to the Golden Age of Hollywood section of my website, which includes pen portraits of my favourite actors and actresses of the era. I hope you will enjoy the content.

Arguably, The Golden Age of Hollywood opened with The Mothering Heart, a 1913 drama starring Lillian Gish and Walter Miller. The plot centred on a clandestine affair.

Lillian Gish’s film acting career spanned 75 years, from 1912 to 1987. She was called “The First Lady of American Cinema”, and is credited with pioneering fundamental film performance techniques.

The Mothering Heart has more cast members, 26, than running minutes, 23. A print of the film still survives.
