Nancy Wake was an inspiration for my narrator, Eve, in Eve’s War.
Nancy was a hard drinking, forthright, sensual woman. Her exploits were so outlandish, a reader would dismiss them if presented as fiction. Yet, her heroic deeds were real. She was the embodiment of ‘truth is stranger than fiction.’
Nancy was also an incredibly brave woman. She hated fascism; she recognised its evil while others cowered or collaborated. Also, she loved life with a passion. To sum her up: she threw her heart and soul into every endeavour.
