Leigh Mansfield’s 1960s
The Negresco
Leigh is the narrator of my 1960s mystery series. She visited the Negresco at 23 Brook Street, Mayfair (telephone MAY 5374) in the early 1960s where she enjoyed five course meals in the restaurant for thirty shillings. She also danced there and listened to the music of jazz saxophonist Ronnie Ross and the bass playing of Johnny Hawksworth. To her delight, showbiz stars often called in and performed impromptu.
Leo Bonn, founder of the Royal National Institute for Deaf People lived nearby, at number 22. Later in the 1960s, Jimi Hendrix moved into number 23.
Number 23 is on the left in this picture (Wikipedia).
